Luling Expansion

In April 2008, Monsanto announced a $200 million investment for expansion of our Roundup manufacturing facility in Luling, Louisiana. As our largest Roundup manufacturing facility, this expansion enhances our ability to supply the world’s growing demand for glyphosate – a product farmers around the world have come to rely on over the years. After two years of construction, Monsanto is celebrating the completion of the expansion on Friday, March 5, 2010.

The Luling facility, located just outside New Orleans, has been a part of Monsanto since 1956. With nearly 700 permanent employees and 260 contract employees, it is the company’s second-largest U.S. site, only behind the St. Louis headquarters.

The Luling facility expansion allows Monsanto to boost Roundup production capacity by 20 percent., And thanks to a new a hydrogen-recovery project that allows us to capture the by-product of our manufacturing process and reuse it as energy to run the plant, we’ll also be able to minimize our impact on the environment by reducing our carbon footprint and scaling back our energy use.
