Traveling Through the
Monsanto Showcase

March 5, 2010 By K. Sauer

Not able to make it to this year’s 2010 Commodity Classic? That’s OK because we’re bringing it to you. Here’s a sampling of what Anaheim’s visitors are seeing in Monsanto’s booths – from Genuity™ traits, to Roundup® brand herbicides, to America’s Farmers, to Asgrow®, DEKALB® and Deltapine® (and more!) there’s plenty to take in. Check it out!

  • America’s FarmersMonsanto's America’s Farmers campaign is helping build greater awareness and appreciation among consumers about the key role of American farm families. Whether at the show or not, don’t forget to sign up your favorite mom for the 2010 America’s Farmers Mom of the Year contest. Details are available at http://www.AmericasFarmers.com.

  • Taking Soybean Yield to a Higher Level – U.S. farmers are expected to experience the benefits of higher-yield potential with next-generation Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans on millions of acres in 2010, including new geographies in the South and upper Midwest, following last year’s successful controlled commercial release.

  • Healthier Soybean Oils – The future of nutritionally enhanced quality traits in soybeans has never been brighter. Building on the current Vistive® platform, Monsanto is looking toward the future availability of the Vistive® Gold product, formerly known as Vistive® III. The product is designed to deliver a trans fat free, reduced saturated fat soybean oil with increased stability for frying and baking applications.

Monsanto recently completed submissions to the USDA and FDA in support of the trait. Vistive® Goldsoybeans advanced to the final phase of Monsanto’s R&D pipeline. In addition, a soybean product with oil rich in SDA omega-3 fatty acids has also advanced to the R&D pipeline’s final phase.

  • Greater Profitability and Productivity Potential with Genuity™ Corn TraitsThis year marks the introduction and launch of three Genuity corn traits: Genuity™ SmartStax™, the most advanced, all-in-one corn technology product with the broadest insect spectrum for above- and below-ground insect protection, including a 5 percent refuge in the Corn Belt; Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™, advanced insect spectrum, including corn earworm and fall armyworm, above-ground offering dual modes-of-action to provide superior grain quality, including a 20 percent refuge in the cotton growing regions of the South; and Genuity™ VT Double PRO™, advanced insect spectrum above ground offering dual modes of action, including a 5 percent refuge in the Corn Belt.

  • Taking Wheat Breeding to the Next Level Following Monsanto’s acquisition of the WestBred® brand in 2009, our breeders initiated an intensive effort to incorporate the breakthrough breeding technologies we’ve developed and deployed with notable success in other row crops. This year, our wheat breeders will be expanding their use of molecular markers and applying a greater knowledge about wheat’s genome. The objective of these efforts is to enhance the productivity, sustainability and profitability of wheat through improved yields and the reduced input of resources.

  • New Seed Treatment Technologies – This season, Monsanto is enhancing Acceleron® seed treatment products on Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans and launching the product in corn, as part of the launch of Genuity™ SmartStax technology. Acceleron seed treatment products are designed to help maximize crop performance potential beginning at planting to help enhance the brands’ elite genetics and Genuity trait technologies.

  • Asgrow® Brand Bass Boat Giveaway – Monsanto will announce the winner of a one-of-a-kind, special edition Ranger® bass boat. Visitors to the Asgrow booth will see the boat bearing the Asgrow logo and meet the three finalists of the Asgrow® brand Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® Challenge – a soybean yield contest to recognize farmers who planted the latest soybean trait innovation. Farmers across the Midwest competed for the highest-yielding Asgrow® Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield™ soybeans, but only one will win the grand prize. Check back here to find out who the lucky winner was.

  • DEKALB®North Carolina Corn Yield Contest Winner Scott Wiggins plans to share his winning formula, featuring DEKALB® Genuity™ VT Triple PRO hybrids. The DEKALB brand will be a leading provider of Genuity VT Triple PRO and Genuity SmartStax products in 2010.

  • Channel® – Channel Bio, LLC, a new premier seed brand, is launching leading Channel brand genetics and trait technologies in corn and soybeans this year. Products are delivered through dedicated seedsmen who provide personalized service based on an in-depth understanding of their customers’ farming operations.

  • MON 63410 – One of the newest entrants in weed control is a new formulation of acetochlor that offers early post residual control of tough to control weeds, including glyphosate resistant pigweed and waterhemp. MON 63410 will be introduced for the 2010 season with a focus on the cotton & soybean geographies experiencing the toughest field challenges.
