An Incredible Year: A Look Back at Winter 2009

One thing’s for sure – the agriculture industry never sits still. Every year, we learn of more technologies, new discoveries and, ideally, greater success for farmers around the world.
As we look forward to 2010 and what it will bring to one of the world’s most important industries, let’s take a look back at 2009 and remind ourselves of what happened last year, starting with the winter months of January and February.
- The Weather Channel Interactive and Monsanto partner to launch a section of The Weather Channel’s Web site dedicated to farming – http://www.weather.com/farming. The site offers farmers several components to help make decisions before and throughout the season, such as soil moisture information, detailed wind data, sunrise and sunset times, and a UV index. - In the fourth annual R&D pipeline update, Monsanto announced a record-breaking year of advances. Drought-tolerant corn technology headlined this announcement by moving to the final phase before commercialization.
(Read More) - After much anticipation, an Illinois farmer receives the first bag of Asgrow® Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans. Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield technology is the platform for Monsanto's new soybean technologies in the coming decade, and it posted great harvest results in 2009. (Read More)
- In association with NGO ISAP (Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals), Monsanto launches Project SHARE (Sustainable Harvest - Agriculture, Resources, Environment) – a sustainable yield initiative to improve farmer lives in India. (Read More)
- Charlie Hinkebein, a farmer from Southeast Missouri, becomes the first farmer to reach 100 bushels per acre on non-irrigated acres – and he did it with Asgrow soybeans. (Read More)
- At 2009 Commodity Classic, Monsanto announces the launch of its new trait master brand – Genuity™. Monsanto’s new trait master brand will serve as the umbrella brand over all future technologies and today’s market leaders. (Read More)
